Kelsey and Kyle were married on the most perfect October day. A fall afternoon that dreams are made of, with crisp air, turning leaves, and sun the whole way through. The ceremony venue was the Overland Trail Museum in Sterling, CO, and was truly one of the most adorable and unique venues I’ve ever photographed. With the amazing old barns, the trees and wild buildings and old church, the variety was a photographers dream. The red vintage barn was absolutely perfect for the backdrop of the ceremony!
I could not have been more grateful to have photographed Kelsey + Kyle’s beautiful day! After months and months of emailing and prep, I walked into wedding day feeling like Kelsey and I were old friends even though we were just meeting for the first time. The whole day was filled with happy tears, big belly laughs, and the happiest, kindest people on the planet. It is truly people like Kels + Kyle that make this job so incredibly wonderful.
Stay tuned below for Kelsey + Kyle’s tips for future brides and favorite memories from their planning days! xx
Kelsey, what is one thing you’re most proud of Kyle for?
“I am always amazed by Kyle’s drive and determination he has for anything he puts his mind to. He works so hard each and every day to provide for us. He comes home tired from a job that requires manual labor and then wakes up the next day and does it all over again. Anyone he has ever worked for always speaks to his work ethic and how you “just can’t find young guys like that anymore” It makes me so proud to hear everyone sing his praises, even when he doesn’t think he deserves them. He doesn’t hear it enough, but it is truly amazing how he works so hard not only at his job, but with everyone in his life. He will help anyone at the drop of a hat, no matter what kind of work it entails.”
Kyle, what are you most proud of Kelsey for?
“I’m most proud of her determination and how smart she is and her willingness to want to help people.”
What is the silliest thing you’ve ever done together?
“This one was hard to come up with an answer for – I feel like every moment we have together involves something silly. Whether it is when I (Kelsey) lack common sense and say something silly or when Kyle tries to make up his own words and play them off as real ones. There isn’t one specific moment that stands out that we did together, just a bunch of small, silly moments.”
What is the single best thing you did at your wedding?
“The single best thing I did at my wedding was a first look with Kyle. It was so special to have that moment together. I also knew I wouldn’t get Kyle’s genuine reaction if we were in front of everyone during our ceremony. That is a moment I will forever cherish and its the moment where you truly realize ‘Oh my gosh, I’m getting married'”
And what is one thing you would change?
“One thing I would change is not worrying about pleasing everyone. Some people won’t be happy about the colors you choose, the decorations or any of the million little details that go into planning a wedding. All that truly matters is to do what will make you and your husband happy. In the end, this entire day is about starting your life together, so just get married and enjoy!”
What is one thing you did to keep wedding planning fun and take away the stress?
“I’m weird and I think planning and organizing is so fun – so for the most part everything was fun for me. If I was feeling stressed, I would just focus on taking a break for a couple weeks and know that everything would still be there when I got back. Most importantly through everything, know you have family and friends to spend time with and the small details aren’t as stressful as they are made out to be.”
What was the moment you knew you would marry him/her?
Kyle: “After 5 years I still liked her and wanted to be around her and she didn’t want to kill me so I decided it was time.”
Kelsey: “There isn’t a specific moment in time that I can remember, but I know there was some point where every thought of the future I had involved Kyle. Seeing my grandparents after 60 years, made me want that with Kyle. Watching Kyle take care of all of my families kids, made me want a family with Kyle. Everything became ‘I want that with Kyle.'”
