There are very few days where I can brag that I’ve known the bride longer than the groom has known her. On this particular day, I knew that Brionna was the loudest cheerleader in our dugout on our 10U softball team, and that she was tougher and far cooler than any one we knew at that ripe age of 9.
It was obvious that a girl that possessed literally every cool quality before her tenth birthday would need a very specific man. A man that could not only mirror her strengths and quirky personality, but could compliment them, too. Enter, Nicholas.
It was evident from our first meeting that through his quiet demeanor up front, Nick was every bit as quirky, witty, smart, and hysterical as his better half. And though he was tough in all the important Aggie ways, there was no way that he could beat Brionna in a rap battle. They were absolutely perfect.
Bri + Nick’s incredible day in the foothills of Littleton, CO was everything a perfect fall day should consist of; warm days with golden sun, and cool nights with disco lights + biggie smalls blasting over the speakers. Bri’s elegant ball gown with extensive train was striking against the red rocks of the Arrowhead Golf Course landscape, and her bouquet from Emma Lea was unrealistically gorgeous.
The Johnson’s implemented as many parts of their lives together wherever they could; most importantly through the cigar bar. Since there are few things they love more than each other, they knew the few things that ranked highly were obvious staples in the day: personalized wedding scotch glasses, a personal cigar roller for their guest complete with a wedding cigar box, and a neon sign decorating the bar to tell all that they were indeed, “drunk in love”.
It was so incredibly special to capture such a perfect day for the coolest girl in town, and her new ultimately cool husband. The day could not have been more special, hysterical, or well intentioned had they tried. Congratulations to my sweet friends, Nick + Brionna! xx
Brionna, what are you most proud of Nick for? And Nick, what are you most proud of Brionna for?
Brionna : I am so proud of Nick for lots of different reasons but one thing in particular is how compassionate he is becoming. He strives everyday to be a better partner, son, friend, dog dad, and employee. And it definitely shows!
Nick : I’m very proud of how successful she has become both professionally and as a person since we’ve met. She took a leap of faith and moved down to Houston to be with me nearly 4 years ago. Brionna didn’t have a job lined up and knew very few people down here but took that chance with me. She quickly got a job after moving and has continued to climb the corporate ladder. Thankfully, she’s so fun to be around that I think my friends enjoy hanging out with her more than they do me now!
What memory is most vivid from your wedding day?
Brionna : I have 2. The first as waking up next to him the morning of (I know that is untraditional) and he was still sleeping. I remember looking at him and thinking “Wow…I get to marry him today.” It was a surreal moment as I got my stuff together to head to the bridal suite and knowing the next time I would see him we would be dressed and ready to get hitched! The second was at the very end of the night when we got back to the hotel by ourselves as a married couple and just ranting and raving about how amazing the day was. That was also surreal to think something we worked so hard for (for over a year) finally happened and was over. And it was AMAZING!!
Nick : Definitely the first look. Getting to see how beautiful Brionna looked in her wedding dress was amazing. It was also nice for us to have that time together before all the craziness of the wedding.
What is the one thing you did to keep wedding planning fun and take away the stress?
Both : We took nights off of planning and went on dates or just sat on the couch to watch wedding movies and drink red wine! A favorite of ours was Crazy Rich Asians!
What is your favorite thing about Nick’s personality? Nick, what is your favorite thing about Brionna’s personality?
Brionna : My favorite thing about Nick’s personality is his spontaneity. Never a dull moment. He always has some creative invention idea, some sort of fun activity he wants to try or some wild story from the day that he can’t wait to tell me!
Nick : Brionna is a bit of a tomboy; so I love that we can go to an Astros game and drink beers together. But we’re able to have romantic dates as well!
What is the moment you knew you would marry him/her?
Brionna : I wouldn’t say there was one time I KNEW I would marry him. However, there was one time I remember that I HOPED I would marry him was right after I moved to Houston. I had no job, no friends, no family near me, and I was so sad. I drove around Houston sight seeing all day and then I came home and drank wine. . .I was so upset. After he came home, it could have been easy for him to just tell me it would be okay and then rest from his long day at work. Instead he made me clean up, took me out to dinner and we talked about how I could network for job prospects. He not only made me feel better, but that was the first time I truly felt like we were partners in life together.
Nick : This was fairly early on, but certainly sticks out. I had gone to visit her in Denver (before she moved to Houston) and she had some work stuff she needed to do. Brionna asks me if I wanted to go to Twin Peaks while she knocked out her work stuff. I thought this was a test, so I was EXTREMELY hesitant to say yes; but before I could answer. . .Brionna says “you may as well have something to look at while I work.” So we went and hung out at Twin Peaks for a bit. The whole time I couldn’t help but think “this one’s a keeper.”
Of course I have to take a moment to give a HUGE shout-out to the amazing vendors, who made Brionna and Nick’s day so dang incredible!
